Ranking All 7 Superhero Movies From 2016 In Order Of Anticipation
2. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice
Man Of Steel was a polarizing film, with some praising it as a return to form for DC's flagship hero after the letdown that was Superman Returns and the other camp denouncing it as far too dark and full of angst, with an ending that fundamentally altered who Superman is. Regardless of which side you fall on, the hype is very real for Dawn of Justice. Fans have been calling for Batman and Superman to cross paths onscreen for years - even I Am Legend inserted an easter egg related to it - and WB decided now was the time. It's a risky move to reboot Batman so soon after the acclaimed Christopher Nolan trilogy but the caped crusader is a proven property that fans will support and may be the injection of life that Superman needs. Dawn of Justice is not an adaptation of The Dark knight Returns, although it's clear there will be some story elements present in the movie. The trailer hints at a war-weathered Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement to hold Superman accountable in the wake of the destruction caused by his battle with Zod. If this is indeed the catalyst behind the clash, then it retroactively makes all the ridiculously excessive collateral damage in Man Of Steel serve a purpose in furthering the story. Whether that was intended or the filmmakers used that criticism to their advantage is another story. From what little we've seen Ben Affleck looks to have nailed Bruce Wayne and I'll go on record as saying he's going to be the best Batman yet. In addition to the principals we've got Gal Gadot stepping into the role of Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as a kick*ss redesigned version of Aquaman and the rumored inclusion of Ezra Miller's Flash, which obviously lays the groundwork for the upcoming Justice League movie. Plus the always excellent Jeremy Irons as loyal butler Alfred and more of The Joker! Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor is still a little iffy, but he deserves the benefit of the doubt at least.. But let's face it: the chance to see Batman and Superman lock horns on screen is the real selling point here. Everything else is just window dressing.
