5. Patriot Games - Impaled And Blown Up

We're now in the top 5 of Sean Bean's best movie deaths and this death from Patriot Games (1992) is without a doubt the most over the top death in his entire filmography.

Based off of a Tom Clancy novel of the same name, Sean Bean plays Sean Miller, a terrorist whose initial plot is foiled by Jack Ryan. After escaping, Miller vows revenge on Ryan for killing his younger brother and tracks him to his home address.

Bean's death scene itself is a dramatic spectacle as the two beat the stuffing out of each other on board Ryan's boat. Miller and Ryan trade ferocious blows whilst going at full speed on a choppy ocean but, just before smashing into some rocks, Ryan manages to gain the upper hand, and quite spectacularly so.

Ryan impales Miller with an anchor and jumps off the boat to safety whereas Miller, still alive and gasping for air, is blown to smithereens when the boat collides with the shore.

This deserves to be in the top 5 for removing any doubt whatsoever that he'll be back for the sequel by going completely overboard (heh) with his death.
