Ranking All The Alien & Predator Movies, From Worst To Best
6. Predators (2010)
After the misstep that was the Alien vs Predator series, Fox wanted to bring the alien hunters back to their gritty credibility by hiring Robert Rodriquez to write/produce a new entry (based off an earlier treatment he wrote).
Starting intriguingly like a wild Twilight Zone episode, its gripping premise is full of potential with enticing hints of evolving the series. Unfortunately, it proceeds in a pretty standard fashion from there.
The alien planet setting is nary taken advantage of and the new breed of Predator are basically just the same creature but taller and darker. Also, the film doesn't do itself any favours by referencing the high-bar of the original so often.
Regardless, even if it doesn't break the mould, it's solid and enjoyable. The ensemble cast is a flavourful mix of memorable character actors (with a great bug-nuts cameo from Laurence Fishburne). Also, the action is fierce and effective with it even containing one of the franchises strongest set-pieces; an exhilarating Yakuza vs Predator battle.
This Predator instalment hardly brought the franchise back to its top-spot, in fact, it was quite quickly forgotten. Still, it's a worthy, well-made entry that deserves more attention then it got.
