Ranking All The New Movie Trailers From Worst To Best

6. Terminator Genisys

Up until now, Terminator Genisys has been marketed as an X-Men: Days Of Future Past-esque soft-reboot of the franchise; a movie that through all its explosive action ultimately exists to create a new status quo for all subsequent entries to follow singularly on from. After the latest trailer, that no longer seems to be the case; while rewriting the timeline is certainly an element, the main focus is the typical "robot hunts down a Connor" story from the first three movies, only with a big, fan-baiting twist. Terminator's always been a series obsessed with twisting audience expectations - Terminator 2: Judgement Day turned the original's big bad into an emotional hero and Terminator Salvation introduced new protagonist Marcus, only for him to be a Skynet robot spy - but every time the shocking development has been undercut by the marketing, ruined by trailers and thus lacking any real impact in the film proper (Arnie telling John to "get down" in T2 is undeniably cool, but it's not really a surprise). So whether the "Payoff" trailer for Genisys is any good hinges entirely on whether John Connor turning up in the past as a human-Terminator hybrid is a key plot point established in the first half hour or a major second act twist. And it certainly seems like it's the latter. The only reason there's that big reveal here in the first place is because the script leaked online a couple of months back; even though it was only a spoiler prone minority who actually took advantage of it, it seems like Paramount have baulked and decided to get everyone on the same page, ruining a potentially awesome moment in the process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGSxss7gWak
