Ranking All The Pixar Sequels From Worst To Best

1. Toy Story 3

Set a whopping eleven years after the second film, Toy Story 3 tells the story of what happens to the toys as Andy prepares to go off to college. A trashbag mixup occurs, leading the vast majority of the toys to believe Andy was going to throw them away, so they all decide to go to Sunnyside Daycare, where they think they'll be loved.

What plays out from there is one of the finest trilogy-cappers in cinematic history. It is also everything you'd expect from a Pixar film: hysterical, enthralling, and heartbreaking. Watching Woody, Buzz, and the gang all come together like never before in the face of Lots-O, the franchise's greatest antagonist, is unexpected and thrilling. Their prison break is a particularly wonderful sequence, with moments of genuine dread and danger, especially when the entire gang holds hands as they prepare to die in the furnace.

Lee Unkrich, who had previously worked as a co-director/editor on many other Pixar films, stepped up to the director's chair for this film after Lasseter turned it down, and the film is all the better for it. Unkrich brings a distinct sense of timing, tone, and style that perfectly suits this film.

He brings it all home in the final shot. After Andy has left the toys with Bonnie, the camera pans up to the clouds, an exact mirror of the first shot of the clouds on Andy's walls from the very first film. This remains the definitive Pixar sequel.

How would you rank the Pixar sequels (and one prequel)? Let us know down in the comments.
