Ranking April 2017's Movies From Worst To Best
10. Rules Don't Apply
RottenTomatoes Score: 55% (5.8/10)
Box Office: Even on a relatively modest $25 million budget, Warren Beatty's first directorial effort in almost 20 years has pulled in not even 10% of its budget so far. A bust, and a shame considering it'll probably be his final film.
Verdict: The single remarkable thing about this film is Warren Beatty's memorable performance as legendary eccentric and pioneer Howard Hughes.
Otherwise, it's a fairly languid, milquetoast old-fashioned romantic drama, which while well-performed by Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo himself!) and Lily Collins, is low on energy and struggles to sustain interest through all of its two-plus-hours.
That this was expected to be an Oscar player this time last year is pretty hilarious in retrospect.
