Ranking August 2015's Movies From Worst To Best

7. Ricki & The Flash

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 62% (6.1/10) Box Office: Made for $18 million, Ricki has just reaped its budget back at the box office, so while it won't be a major hit for Meryl Streep, it'll do just fine with upcoming international releases factored in. The Verdict: Meryl Streep strives for her fourth Oscar here, though this might be a rare effort that doesn't even see her get nominated. While Streep's work is absolutely rock solid, Jonathan Demme's generic family drama just doesn't give her much to work with outside of the thoroughly predictable and even schmaltzy. There's no doubt a game cast ready to tuck into some outrageous drama, but the end result is sadly much more benign. Given that Diablo Cody wrote it above all else, it's surprising that it clings so eagerly to genre formula, and that it can't arrive at a more emotionally honest, less-manipulative resolution. Probably give this one a wide berth unless you're a card-carrying Streep fan.
