Box Office: There's no budgetary info, but Paweł Pawlikowski's electric new drama has raked in $4.1 million in its native Poland alone.

With it yet to open in many major markets and propelled by awards buzz, this should become a modest hit much like the director's previous film, the Oscar-winning Ida (which made $11.1 million on a $2.3 million budget).

Verdict: Already a front-runner for next year's Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, Cold War may not be a fun night out at the cinema, but it sure is a sublimely assembled, gorgeous romantic drama.

Almost entirely free of sentiment and lightning-paced at just 88 minutes in length while topped by heart-rending performances from Joanna Kulig and Tomasz Kot, this is a monochrome delight.

You'll want to have something light and frothy to watch afterwards, but if you're in the mood for a serious yet wildly elegant piece of work, look no further.
