Ranking August 2018's Movies From Worst To Best

15. The Meg

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 46% (5.5/10)

Box Office: Sure to be one of the most intriguing and amusing box office stories of the year, the Jason Statham-starring shark movie cost a reported $178 million, and by late August had confidently sailed past the $400 million mark, making it a surprise success and unbelievably more profitable than Solo: A Star Wars Story. By the end of its run it should have effortlessly crossed $500 million. Yup.

Verdict: Neither as awesome as you wanted it to be nor as awful as you feared it might be, The Meg may be overlong and suffer through a tedious first act, but once the giant shark shenanigans kick off, it's a ludicrously entertaining, crucially self-aware monster romp.

Jason Statham leads the charismatic charge in a movie that's better looking and bigger-budgeted than it has any right to be, even if director Jon Turteltaub certainly could've taken things even further.
