Ranking Batman's Entrances In All 13 Batman Movies From Worst To Best
1. The Batman
If it is just about introducing this Batman’s credentials as one intimidating force of crime, this entrance takes the cake. We see the bat signal shining in the sky, and already the criminals are paranoid and panicking that Batman might come out of the shadows. When Batman finally comes out, we hear first the slow footsteps of a man who is all out of bubblegum. What follows is an epic beat down where Batman takes care of a gang assaulting a man alone in a subway station.
When it comes to staging the atmosphere for a fight scene, then Matt Reeves’ The Batman is the best easily, but it is more than that. Batman’s entrance sets the stage for what the movie is trying to say about Batman - namely, that Batman, despite being feared by most criminals, is an ineffective force for justice. While it is hyping us up by showing how intimidating Batman is, it is subtly also saying, “Batman kinda’ sucks.”
It is very easy to miss when the criminals are being paranoid because of the bat signal, that no matter how scared they were, their fear did not stop them from committing a crime. The man Batman was defending from the gang was afraid of him, and the gang will just beat up the next guy they see in the future. As the movie continues, it is revealed that the growth Batman needs to do is to be more than the guy who beats up people; he needs to be the man that helps and inspire people too. It is only then that he can make a dent in the crime rate.
Aside from that, we learn so much about Robert Pattinson’s version of Batman just by the way he fights: We learn that his temper is quick to pop when his opponent gets a solid hit on him and will counter with force, only to always hold back when he realizes he is about to kill someone. We also learn that despite his rage, he takes mercy for people who do not want to fight him; like when Batman left one of the gang members alone because he was not attacking.
This entrance wins above all because it is so jam-packed with story-telling, and Batman barely even uttered a word.
