Box Office: Michael Haneke's long-awaited follow-up to Amour has cracked around $900,000 million on limited release in around a dozen countries.

Considering that Haneke's films tend to cost around the $10 million mark or even more, this one's clearly not going to turn a profit.

Verdict: Haneke's latest film may not stand tall with his best works, but it does succeed as a grimly satirical examination of rich white folk, which in the current climate, is very much welcome.

Broader and less sternly upsetting than the filmmaker's last few films, Happy End alternately feels pressingly of-the-moment and borrowing a little too much from his prior works, though the performances, especially that of the ever-lovable Isabelle Huppert, do help it go down easily enough.
