Ranking December 2018's Movies From Worst To Best
11. The House That Jack Built
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 60% (6.2/10)
Box Office: Lars von Trier's $10 million art-house thriller has cracked just $1.6 million worldwide, albeit on limited release. With the movie releasing on VOD day-and-date, though, it'll have multiplied that number many times over at home.
Verdict: Nobody would blame you for flat-out refusing to watch von Trier's latest, a nauseating yet surprisingly hilarious film about a serial killer going on his murderous rounds over the years.
Matt Dillon gives a career-finest performance as the titular killer, committed fully to von Trier's bold vision and never letting his mask slip. If you ever wanted to hear breathless monologues about the utility of art in-between bloody set-pieces, this might be something you'll enjoy.
If you're already a von Trier hater, though, there's absolutely nothing here for you, and even then, it's a brutal 155-minute sit.
