Ranking December 2018's Movies From Worst To Best
12. Aquaman
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 64% (6.0/10)
Box Office: In the undeniable box office triumph of the year, Aquaman has just crossed the $750 million mark worldwide and is setting its sights on a cool $1 billion, which would inexplicably make it the highest-grossing film in the DCEU to date.
Not bad for a movie that cost $200 million and was widely expected to be a tough sell to audiences.
Verdict: Without the sturdy work of director James Wan, Aquaman would be a much tougher film to like, because from its generic writing to its cardboard characters and consistent lack of wit, it often feels like a committee-assembled movie with a shocking lack of personality.
But Wan does such a strong job with the action sequences and the world-building that many will be able to overlook the boilerplate plotting and bland blockbuster formula.
Given the enormous challenges involved in bringing Aquaman to the big screen (especially at this price point), it's basically not bad, even if it could've been much better.
