Ranking December 2018's Movies From Worst To Best
7. Mary Poppins Returns
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 78% (7.3/10)
Box Office: The $130 million Disney sequel opened well below most projections, though has managed to hold firmly since, easily recouping its budget and due to cross the $200 million mark imminently.
Mary Poppins Returns won't be the stonking hit most were expecting many months ago, but it'll do fine enough.
Verdict: While certainly not the iconic smash that its predecessor was, this wildly belated sequel makes the most of a thoroughly charming Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda to deliver frothy holiday fun for all the family.
The songs may not have quite the same punchiness as the original Mary Poppins, but they're toe-tapping delights all the same, aided by some visually remarkable set-pieces which work in spite of Rob Marshall's fairly middling direction.
