Ranking December 2018's Movies From Worst To Best

5. The Old Man & The Gun

The Old Man And The Gun Robert Redford Sissy Spacek
Fox Searchlight

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 91% (7.5/10)

Box Office: David Lowery's crime drama was clearly a typically low-budget affair for the filmmaker, and has grossed $13.3 million worldwide.

Tough to know exactly what to make of that, but it's another film that'll likely play much better at home, especially with the older crowd.

Verdict: Rather than go out on a melodramatic, Oscar-baiting high, Robert Redford's apparently final movie is a low-key charmer which makes good on a delightful central dynamic between Redford and Sissy Spacey, with fine work from Casey Affleck also.

Perhaps the most quiet and gentle movie ever made about multiple bank robberies, The Old Man and the Gun is a rich, unique character study which slyly sidesteps cliches while giving Redford a dignified send-off.
