Ranking December 2018's Movies From Worst To Best
17. Mowgli: Legend Of The Jungle
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 53% (5.5/10)
Box Office: Direct to Netflix.
Verdict: Andy Serkis' bold Mowgli origin story certainly didn't match the rich majesty of Jon Favreau's 2016 Jungle Book movie, but it at least presented a daring, impressively dark rendition of Rudyard Kipling's source material.
Indeed, this certainly isn't for kids, and while adults may raise their eyebrows at the occasionally uncanny visual effects, Serkis should be lauded for somehow convincing a major studio to give him a blockbuster budget for such an uncompromising - and really damn weird - vision.
It's not a home-run by any means, but it does deserve praise for committing fully to its bleak vision and not merely rehashing Favreau's movie for easy sentiment.
