Ranking December 2018's Movies From Worst To Best

16. Papillon

Papillon Rami Malek Charlie Hunnam
Bleecker Street

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 52% (5.8/10)

Box Office: Though clearly made on a modest budget, this prison break drama has cracked just $7.3 million worldwide. Perhaps if it'd been released in North America post-Bohemian Rhapsody, it might've been able to capitalise on Rami Malek's recent commercial momentum.

Verdict: There were few begging for a remake of the much-loved 1973 Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman-starring historical drama, but at least with Malek and Charlie Hunnam in the lead roles, their chemistry is effortlessly engaging.

It's overlong and thinly written in places, but mostly well-directed by Michael Noer, if ultimately a fairly pointless exercise in re-doing a 70s classic.
