Ranking Every Action Scene In Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness
11. Doctor Strange Vs. A Mummy Demon
We believe we have accidentally ended up in a platformer video game on our first set-piece - complete with floating stone platforms as a mummy demon is chasing our players.
All kidding aside, it is a very fun action scene, that any video game movie would dream about. Knowing nothing in context, it looks like Doctor Strange is rocking a new look accompanied by a new kid-sidekick. We don’t know what’s going on, but we know it is important for the two to go to the glowing book to stop some end of the world threat.
The environment, as CGI-filled as it is, is beautiful. We even get a glimpse of the movie’s extra MCU brutality when the demon stabs Doctor Strange in the leg and the wound gets a graphic close-up.
The biggest event is when Strange sacrifices his sidekick America Chavez when all hope is lost. Doctor Strange plans to steal America’s powers, killing her in the justification that her sacrifice will be for the greater good. It is a bold move that is both out of character and also, disturbingly, not so out of character for Doctor Strange. We have seen Doctor Strange do morally ambiguous things for existence multiple times before. This is no different - only this time it involves killing a child.
Of course, Doctor Strange failed. Before he can steal America’s powers, the demon gives him a killing stroke. In the last breath of his life, Strange manages to help America get out of the situation.
It is revealed that it was all a dream by the real Doctor Strange, and the Strange that died was an alternate version from a different universe. The point remains - Doctor Strange, no matter what universe will always play god. He will always do what he deems is right, arrogantly believing it should always be only in his hands. It is the first sign for Doctor Strange to change, learning to trust also others at the end of the world scenarios. The even better choice for the greater good.
