Ranking Every Animated Batman Film From Worst To Best

7. Batman: Year One

An adaption of the comic book story arc of the same name, Batman: Year One is easily not only one of the stronger animated Batman films overall, but also one of the best in terms of being a direct adaptation. Whereas The Killing Joke failed to hit the mark in this regard, Year One got more or less everything right.

It serves as both a unique look at the origin of the Dark Knight as we know him, taking us inside all the trial and error Bruce Wayne had to go through as Gotham's resident vigilante before he truly found his footing, as well as something of an origin story for Jim Gordon and all the trials and tribulations he faced after arriving as the new cop in town.

Plus, we also get a new origin and interpretation of Selena Kyle's Catwoman, which blends into the narrative seamlessly.

The action is tense, the voice acting is great, and the narrative is exceptionally compelling. It shines new light on the human side of all the characters involved, their imperfections, and how they work to overcome them.
