Ranking Every Chucky Movie From Worst To Best

Remakes are always a tricky thing, especially if the original is so beloved. Although, once in a while, it's nice to be proven wrong when a remake can either improve things, or just offer something a little different. Surprisingly, Child's Play (2019) offers both of these. Although, granted, it has to be said that the film could've gotten away with being an original product, instead of slapping on the Child's Play logo, but it is what it is.

Fundamentally, the possessed doll route is kicked to the curb, and Chucky becomes a walking, talking Alexa device. To be fair, this seems very far fetched, and out there as a premise, but moving past that, it's rather interesting seeing how this malfunctioned product gradually adapts to the world around it.

Naturally, it's rather disturbing, and somewhat inventive, seeing Chucky murder people and animals based on his devotion to his owner, Andy, who he'd formed a bond with through its programming. Gradually, Andy sees what Chucky's becoming and tries to put a stop to the psychotic doll, but ultimately ends up in a personal battle, as Chucky becomes truly sadistic in his attempts to win over Andy's devotion.

Finally, it has to be said that Mark Hamill's portrayal of this version of Chucky is spot on, and delivers a creepy, but innocent sounding characterisation that leaves you puzzled, and on edge. Sure, it's a completely different take on the infamous killer doll, but it's one that leaves you strangely wanting more, like a neat Elseworlds narrative that exists alongside the main universe.
