23. The Joker - Jared Leto (Suicide Squad)
Jared Leto's Joker is a strange character creation: he's built on a solid foundation of comic book reference points (all of his tattoos, all of his costumes, some of his behaviour), and has a particularly visceral appeal to him, but it's just wildly unfocused. And he sticks out too much by trying to over-perform.
Amidst rumours of fatally over-zealous cuts, he also doesn't even remotely impact the main plot. Seriously, remove him and nothing changes.
Leto's performance also hugely divisive - though not as much as it would have been had his abuse of Harley been left in. I can admire the attempt to do something different, but it's horribly off-putting the minute you notice he's basically playing Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow in Joker cosplay on drugs.
Oddly though, I do want to see some more of him. So not a total failure.
