Ranking Every DC Original Animated Movie Worst To Best

17. Justice League: Gods And Monsters (2015)

Justice League Doom
Warner Bros.

Influenced by those wacky alternative universe takes on well-established heroes from DC's Elseworlds banner, this left-field animated movie asks: what if General Zod had spliced his DNA into Superman before he came to earth?

Well, we would've gotten a more violence prone Justice League for one; Batman is a bloodthirsty vampire (voiced in hilarious monotone by Michael C. Hall), Wonder Woman a foul-mouthed space princess, and Superman is more Zod than Kal-El. Couple that with the ridiculously adult nature of things - as it's unashamedly violent and sleazy, with one villain a blatantly naked blonde with the lethal powers of T-1000 - and you've got one wild product.

These elements might've seemed less in-your-face if the movie had taken up the anime inspired look of the recent animated output, but instead its art pays homage to the earlier, cartoony look of the Justice League: Animated Series, which makes it feel like some crazy episode of The Venture Bros instead of a cutting-edge alternative universe epic.

If those sound like criticism, they're not. The plot is just so off-the-wall that it's difficult to decipher if it's a decent movie at all, you'll be too busy watching with your mouth a gap as it continues to get more bug-nuts. Still, it's endlessly entertaining and fascinating compared to the usually safe JLA movies. Just be prepared.
