Ranking Every DC Original Animated Movie Worst To Best
13. Green Lantern: Emerald Knights (2011)
Emerald Knight is an anthology film released to help promote the disappointing live-action Green Lantern film from the same year, and explore the Lantern world and mythos in a snappy and enjoyable format.
Unlike the Batman misstep Gotham Knight, this product does the right move by having its shorts be damn good and interesting; revealing backstories from fun supporting characters - like Kilawog's brutal bootcamp training - or focusing on the history behind the Corps originators.
It's well-voiced (fan-favourite Nathan Fillion voices Hal Jordan) and animated, with a handful of great set-pieces that show just how much vast and enthralling the Galactic Corps setting can be in an animated format.
Still, it suffers from what most anthology flicks do - it feels episodic. Not helping matters, the wrap-around story is the weakest of the group and leaves the desire for a stronger main plot, or just a proper Corps animated feature instead.
Still, due to the failure of Ryan Reynolds's movie, we won't be getting any more solo focused Lantern flicks till DC attempts to reboot it again, so let's take what we can get. With that mindset, it is by no means better than Green Lantern: First Flight, but still works as a tasty reminder of DC's most dynamic hero, and the incredible universe he inhabits.
