Ranking Every Jim Carrey Movie Worst To Best
3. Dumb & Dumber (1994)
Dumb and Dumber may be the most strictly iconic comedy in Carrey's oeuvre, its stupid-clever brand of comedy proving wildly popular with audiences of all persuasions.
Carrey and a thoroughly against-type Jeff Daniels make for a wonderfully endearing pairing as two dimwits who embark on a road trip to return a briefcase of money to a woman (Carrey's short-lived future wife, Lauren Holly).
Memorable more for the series of loony set-pieces than its admittedly threadbare crime comedy plot, Dumb and Dumber is packed to the gills with unforgettable one-liners and gloriously puerile physical comedy - best of all the toilet gag to end all toilets gags.
It takes smart filmmakers to deliver a film this entertainingly dumb.
2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Jim Carrey working from a Charlie Kaufman script was a dream come true in many respects - a match made in heaven complimented by both a co-starring Kate Winslet and Michel Gondry's fantastically creative direction.
Carrey was once again snubbed by the Academy for his wonderfully subdued performance as introverted depressive Joel Barish, his unexpected chemistry with Kate Winslet - who did receive a Best Actress Oscar nod - proving totally and utterly disarming.
As a meditation on love, loss, and memory, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of the most creative-yet-authentic films about the human experience you're ever likely to see.
Perhaps better than all this, though, the Carrey-Gondry pairing later gave us the black comedy TV series Kidding, which touts arguably the best performance of Carrey's entire career.
