Ranking Every Live-Action Catwoman From Worst To Best
2. Julie Newmar - Batman 1966
When it comes to television, Julie Newmar is, was, and will likely always be considered the undisputed, quintessential Catwoman. And, honestly, it's not exactly hard to see why.
After all, she made history as the very first to play the role when the Batman television series began in 1966 and as the original Catwoman, it was her who established many of the character's mannerisms and personality traits that would endure throughout the decades. Others imitated and built upon what she established, but she was the architect and the trend-setter, as it were, who made all of that possible.
Newmar was a fantastic actress in her own right and looked right at home in the Catwoman outfit. She moved with unmatched swagger and behaved in such a way that just oozed charisma. Plus, while the original Batman TV series is notorious for its campiness and hasn't exactly aged all that well, Newmar's performance as Catwoman actually does hold up rather nicely, which is likely why much of what she established for the character is still used today.
There's no two ways about it, Julie Newmar's Catwoman is the very definition of iconic.
