Ranking Every Live-Action Superman Suit From Worst To Best

7. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice Suit

Superman Movies
Warner Bros

The suit in Batman V Superman is the same from the one in Man of Steel but with subtle details changes that almost make it a different suit altogether. The most obvious change is the brighter saturation of the colors. Unfortunately, it does not make him look any more approachable. It still looks dark, it’s just shinier and smoother looking. The texture already made him look like a dark leather-skinned reptile before, the update emphasized it more - no wonder everyone is afraid of going near this guy in this movie.

The muscles are bulkier than that from the last movie, and that means the excellent silhouette he had is gone. With the bulky muscles and the leather or rubbery-like texture of the suit, he looks uncomfortable in it - like he is a tire that is about to burst.

If the makers wanted him to look muscled, intimidating, and photogenic in the dark, they have succeeded impressively. The sacrifice is that Clark does not look like the misunderstood beacon of hope these movies keep on telling us he is. The priority should not just be to make him look tough, it should also be to make him look inspirational.

If the movie’s cinematography is all darkness and shadows to represent a dark, cynical world, why does Superman look even darker? He looks like the darkest man in the room, on par with Batman. Where exactly is the contrast?
