Ranking Every New Movie Trailer From This Past Week

3. Suspiria

Remaking a classic is always a tall order. Remaking a Dario Argento horror classic is an even taller order. The original 1977 Suspiria is considered to be one of the greatest horror films of all time by a great many, and so the news of an Amazon Studios produced remake may not have inspired the utmost hope in many viewers.

But the trailer for Luca Guadagnino's remake left fans of the original begging for more. Without a single syllable of dialogue, the trailer is able to perfectly communicate exactly the kind of film it is selling.

Set to a throbbing atonal score from Thom Yorke, the trailer offers up spine-tingling glimpses at the visuals from the film. Composed of images taken from disparate parts of the film, the trailer plays out more like an experimental short than it does a piece of corporate-approved advertising. The final twenty seconds especially play like a fever dream, with shots of two shoulder blades inhumanly parting, a girl with slugs on her face, a woman sliding up the doorframe, and the final shot of a rounded blade just teetering back and forth on a table for several seconds.

Its a trailer that is specifically designed to make viewers uncomfortable and on-edge and it more than achieves its goal.
