Ranking Every New Movie Trailer From This Past Week
2. Halloween
Fans of the Halloween series have had a rough couple of decades. Generally speaking, the last installment of the series that was well-received by fans or critics was 1998's Halloween H20. Since then, audiences have gotten a flat-out hated sequel to H20, a divisive Rob Zombie remake, and an even more divisive Rob Zombie sequel.
But now, it is as if the decades-worth of patience is finally being rewarded. The trailer for David Gordon Green's upcoming sequel teases a full-blown Halloween event film. Franchise creator and all-around badass John Carpenter is back as a creative consultant and is set to provide the musical score, just as he did for his 1978 original. Jamie Lee Curtis is back, filling the void left by Donald Pleasance's death as the resident Van Helsing to Michael Myer's Dracula.
The trailer has plenty of references and teases to moments from other films in the franchise, but what's most shocking is how wonderfully different and strange it feels at times. The sequence that opens the trailer, of the reporters visiting Michael in prison and holding out the mask to him, is unlike anything else ever seen in the franchise and is absolutely bone-chilling.
In many ways, it is a perfect Halloween trailer. Its intense, haunting, and when THAT music kicks in it feels like it's 1978 all over again.
