Ranking Every Nicolas Cage Movie Worst To Best
57. The Runner (2015)
The Runner is a rare foray into the political thriller realm for Cage, a well-intended yet heavy-handed exploration of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, with Cage playing a politician whose aspirations are derailed by personal foibles.
It certainly has something to say about dirty politics, but lays it on so thickly and without much in the way of a compelling story or characterisation that it doesn't quite work.
An admirable effort at least, and something a little more interesting than your typical Cage streamer romp.
56. Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001)
Though visually sumptuous and led by an appealing cast including Cage, a luminous Penelope Cruz, and a beefcake Christian Bale, Captain Corelli's Mandolin ultimately fails to escape the sappy, saccharine trappings of its pandering script.
At 129 minute in length, it feels positively excruciating for what it is, and the effect of it striving so hard for emotion is that it just might leave viewers a little cold.
