Ranking: Every Tim Burton Movie From Worst To Best

14. Sleepy Hollow (1999)

Alice In Wonderland Johnny Depp Frankenweenie
Paramount

A lot of the reason this stylish but fairly hollow (sorry) horror flick works is the solid chemistry between Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci.

Burton crucially adapts Washington Irving's tale with his usual beyond-reproach style, with exceptional art direction, costume design and cinematography especially heightening the unsettling tone.

A common complaint about the movie is that the plot's too complex for the type of movie Burton wants to make, definitely detracting from the grisly fun somewhat, even if Christopher Walken's Headless Horseman does fill the void as a creepy hoot.

Best Moment: Just as the Horseman is about to decapitate Ricci, Depp throws his skull back to him, which he places back on his shoulders and it creepily regrows all the flesh. The CGI has aged surprisingly well.
