Ranking: Every Tim Burton Movie From Worst To Best
13. Mars Attacks! (1996)
Tim Burton knew exactly what he was doing here, but that didn't stop Mars Attacks! being one of his most divisive movies.
A loving homage to classic flying saucer B-movies that sees script and characters take a massive backseat to the exceptional effects and action, it may have almost zero depth (unless you count the sledgehammer-subtle politcal satire), but that doesn't stop it being a fun time at the movies.
In addition to the strong effects-driven mayhem, there's an absolutely insane cast attached to this thing (best of all Jack Nicholson as the goofball President), and a far darker tone than its apparently breezy thrills might otherwise suggest.
Best Moment: The Martians slaughter the majority of Congress with their death rays. Wish fulfilment at its most savage.
