Ranking Every Tobe Hooper Film From Worst To Best
7. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 wasn't the sequel anyone was expecting from Tobe Hooper. It was brash, gory and in-your-face - a far cry from the nuanced terror and low-budget scares of the original.
Horror-comedy is notoriously difficult to pull off, largely because one genre usually offsets the other, and while Texas Chainsaw 2's attempt to meld them resulted in a tonal mess, it does have some saving graces.
A joyously over-the-top performance by the late Dennis Hopper is one of them, and when Tom Savini provides your gore effects, the fans are in for a bloody treat.
Texas Chainsaw 2 was misunderstood upon release as Hooper threw Hollywood a horror-comedy curveball, but it's since attracted a cult following and has aged better than you might think as a satire on '80s excess.
