Ranking Every Tobe Hooper Film From Worst To Best
8. The Funhouse
The Funhouse was Tobe Hooper's first major studio production after Texas Chainsaw, and it arrived at the right time to capitalise on slasher mania in Hollywood.
It was a solid addition to the genre, and is actually a cut above many of its counterparts since it fleshes out its characters and throws in commentary about societal outcasts.
FX wiz Craig Reardon - the man behind Sloth from The Goonies - created a nightmarish deformed killer to stalk Funhouse's teens, using practical effects that still trump a lot of the CGI you see in horror these days.
Funhouse didn't inspire a franchise like Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street or Halloween, but there's no reason why it shouldn't have.
