Ranking: Every Tom Cruise Action Movie From Worst To Best
5. Mission: Impossible
Though it takes itself more seriously than most of the sequels, the original M:I is still a highly entertaining espionage romp, even if the CGI has aged horribly (especially during the climactic train-helicopter chase) and the Jim Phelps (Jon Voight) twist remains controversial with fans.
More of a gradual, tense thriller than its sequels, the Brian De Palma-directed first film nevertheless touts probably the most genuinely involving plot of the lot, as well as strongly-drawn characters and a number of highly entertaining suspense sequences.
Best Moment: The unforgettable, immensely iconic set-piece in which Hunt dangles from a wire while hacking a CIA computer in a ridiculously well-protected room. It virtually defines suspense at the movies.
