Ranking: Every Tom Cruise Action Movie From Worst To Best
12. The Last Samurai
Though the image of Tom Cruise suited up in Samurai garb isn't the easiest in the world to take seriously, The Last Samurai largely embraces its earnest absurdity, resulting in a sharply-directed, highly entertaining historical epic.
While there are certainly debates to be had about the film's historical accuracy and western romanticism of Samurai culture, it does provide more food-for-thought than you might expect, and the production (namely the cinematography, costumes and Hans Zimmer's score) are simply marvelous.
Cruise and Ken Watanabe (who received a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination) are exceptional in what is a melodramatic but genuinely affecting war flick with a highly unique flavour.
Best Moment: The insanely epic final battle.
