Ranking: Every Tom Cruise Action Movie From Worst To Best
11. Jack Reacher
Jack Reacher may seem like a generic crime thriller on the surface, but it's actually one of the weirdest action flicks in Cruise's entire filmography.
For one, Cruise is an odd fit to play the title character, given Reacher's stoic nature compared to Cruise's overflowing charisma, as well as the fact he's almost a whole foot shorter than Reacher as written on the page.
That's without even mentioning that legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog's plays the film's suitably idiosyncratic villain, The Zec, in surely one of the most bafflingly brilliant feats of casting in recent Hollywood history.
Cruise's regular collaborator Christopher McQuarrie makes the most of a fairly so-so script, serving up thrilling action and emphasising the hard-boiled essence of the source material.
Best Moment: The Zec orders one of his incompetent lackeys to chew off his own fingers, and when he chickens out, has Jai Courtney shoot him in the head. Sorry Tom, but Werner steals this movie.
