RottenTomatoes Score: 24% (4.2/10 average) Box Office: Produced on a modest $40 million budget, Fifty Shades was always going to be a financial success, and to date has grossed over $400 million worldwide, breaking eight box office records in the process. Unsurprisingly, a sequel has already been greenlit for release next year. Yes, it's an easy target for mockery, but Fifty Shades Of Grey is an absolutely terrible movie. Sure, Seamus McGarvey's cinematography is better than the film deserves, Sam Taylor-Johnson's direction is about as good as you could expect, and Dakota Johnson seems to be the only one aware she's in a terrible movie, but, even in terms of sexy thrills, it just doesn't deliver. Despite the salacious subject matter, Fifty Shades is shockingly tame, bathing the actors in tasteful low light to retain their modesty where possible, and the first sex scene doesn't show up until almost 45 minutes into the movie. And it's way too long. And Jamie Dornan is terrible in it. And the dialogue is howlingly bad. And so on and so on.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
