Ranking February 2016's Movies From Worst To Best

9. Triple 9

RottenTomatoes Score: 54% (5.8/10) Box Office: Despite somehow only costing $20 million even with its insane ensemble cast, Triple 9 bombed in its opening weekend and to date hasn't even made half its budget back. Verdict: John Hillcoat's ensemble crime thriller may not totally live up to expectations, but it's still an intense, grim effort all things considered, making solid use of Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie and Woody Harrelson in particular. Probably the biggest disappointment is Kate Winslet, who seems game for a rare villainous performance, but drifts in and out of the film without much fanfare, her screen time being decidedly more minimal than most surely expected. Taut and unpredictable, Triple 9 could have been tighter around the edges, but it's nevertheless compulsive viewing in its own way.
