Ranking February 2017's Movies From Worst To Best
10. Patriots Day
RottenTomatoes Score: 82% (6.9/10)
Box Office: Even with flag-waving subject matter, awards buzz and a Christmas-time release in the U.S., Peter Berg's dramatisation of the Boston marathon bombings is still a few million away from scraping back its $45 million cost.
Verdict: Berg has a real knack for documenting real-world events with both bombast and unexpected sensitivity, and while Patriots Day falls short of Berg's immense Deepwater Horizon last year, it is a tasteful tribute to those who fought and fell that day.
Mark Wahlberg basically does his reliable everyman thing as usual, while a stacked supporting cast (best of all J.K. Simmons) certainly doesn't hurt, even if one might be left wondering why the film really needed to be made at all.
Within that context, though, it's much better than you might be expecting.
