RottenTomatoes Score: 89% (7.8/10)

Box Office: Even with its modest $7 million budget, Mike Mills' outstanding drama has pulled back a mere $5.5 million to date.

Verdict: With one of the year's best casts and most insightful scripts, 20th Century Women was criminally snubbed for Best Picture and Best Actress (Annette Bening) honours at this year's Oscars, but that does nothing to diminish its fantastic sense of time and place and crisp social commentary.

Annette Bening gives one of her best performances as a matriarch looking to make sense of what remains of her life, while Elle Fanning, Greta Gerwig, Billy Crudup and Lucas Jade Zumann complete an exceptional supporting cast.

A fantastically incisive film regardless of your own gender or politics, 20th Century Women just might be that Oscar-snubbed film that ends up regarded as a classic in the years to come.
