Ranking February 2019's Movies From Worst To Best
11. Boy Erased
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 81% (6.92/10)
Box Office: Despite an evidently low budget, the lack of awards buzz killed this one pretty fast, and it's grossed just $8.6 million worldwide since releasing in the U.S. in November.
Verdict: Joel Edgerton's gay conversion drama doesn't quite feel like a fully fleshed-out rendition of Garrard Conley's 2016 memoir, but thanks to an astounding Lucas Hedges performance and wonderful support from Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman, Boy Erased still hits most of its targets.
It feels stock and formulaic in places and occasionally plays some emotional moments a little too aggressively, but as a horrifying yet hopeful look at an extremely dark corner of humanity, it's absolutely worth your time.
