Box Office: Perhaps the biggest box office shock of the year, The Lego Movie 2 opened to just half of its predecessor, and to date has grossed around $140 million worldwide.

For a $99 million animation it's a sure-fire dud, and especially puzzling considering the previous film's $469.1 million final gross. Analysts suspect the market may have become over-saturated with Lego movies after the recent Batman and Ninjago films.

Verdict: An undeniable step down from its predecessor but still gorgeously animated and consistently funny, The LEGO Movie 2 thrives on its self-awareness, its flagrant silliness and its desire to throw just about everything at the wall and see what sticks.

On the other hand many of the first film's best characters are oddly sidelined and it feels a bit too repetitious of what came before, but if you enjoyed the original, there's certainly enough here to satisfy.

Above all else, it sure didn't deserve to flame-out at the box office like it did.
