Ranking January 2016's Movies From Worst To Best

17. The Boy

RottenTomatoes Score: 19% (4.1/10) Box Office: Much like The Forest, this horror flick cost just $10 million and has raked in almost $25 million after just two weekends on release. An easy (if modest) hit. Verdict: There was certainly solid potential for The Boy to basically be a smarter, more self-aware version of 2014's Annabelle, but aside from the occasional moment of welcome humour, this is pretty much another lazy, low-budget horror flick with little to add to the genre. To her credit, The Walking Dead's Lauren Cohan is strong as the lead and the atmosphere sometimes works, but it all adds up to nothing more than, of course, an obligatory, absurd plot twist and a lame sequel-baiting stinger. You could do worse, but you could do much better.
