Ranking January 2016's Movies From Worst To Best

16. The 5th Wave

RottenTomatoes Score: 17% (4.2/10) Box Office: While blessed with a fairly modest $38 million budget for a CGI-fueled blockbuster flick, the latest young adult franchise-starter hasn't even cracked $50 million after two weekends on release, ensuring it's a dud and won't be seeing a sequel. Hooray! Verdict: And you thought Divergent was bad. Though The 5th Wave begins promisingly enough, it soon gives way to the same generic young adult garbage we've seen dozens of times before, without any imagination or invention of its own. A solid cast including Chloe Grace Moretz, Maika Monroe and Liev Schreiber are totally wasted here on a cookie cutter script which rams cringe-worthy romance down the viewers' throat and features long stretches of boring downtime where nothing happens.
