RottenTomatoes Score: 55% (5.7/10) Box Office: The $50 million Michael Bay film fell slightly short of expectations in its opening weekend, and is still a few million away from breaking even. Without question it's going to end up as his lowest-grossing film to date, despite ironically being one of his better efforts on the whole. Verdict: Michael Bay's best-reviewed film since 2007's Transformers isn't free of some of Bay's over-the-top sensibilities, but it smartly downplays the politics and sticks largely to a survival tale of the beleaguered men on the ground. Naturally, the film thrives during its plentiful action sequences, wringing enormous amounts of suspense out of the scenario and literally dozens of riveting set-pieces. Despite a fairly unassuming cast, John Krasinski in particular gives a killer performance as the focal CIA contractor desperately trying to stay alive. Not a classic by any means, but easily one of Bay's very best films, and a pleasant surprise for a mainstream January release.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
