Ranking January 2016's Movies From Worst To Best

3. A Perfect Day

RottenTomatoes Score: 65% (6.6/10) Box Office: Thanks to international grosses, the Benicio del Toro-starring dramedy has raked in $1,702,433 to date, but given the stars attached (also including Tim Robbins and Olga Kurylenko), the budget will likely be in significant excess of this and any VOD grosses the film picks up. Verdict: Writer-director Fernando León de Aranoa smartly shirks convention with this movie about aid relief workers, shrugging off a self-serious treatment in favour of unexpected black comedy. The film still manages to be bracingly effective when it needs to get real, aided hugely by Robbins and del Toro's work in particular. Above all else the film drips with humanity and starts out 2016 with a gem that's sure to fly under the radar.
