Ranking January 2017's Movies From Worst To Best
6. Christine
RottenTomatoes Score: 88% (7.3/10)
Box Office: Budgetary information hasn't been disclosed, but it's made just shy of $300,000 on limited theatrical release and VOD. No surprise here.
Verdict: Unjustifiably shut out of this year's Oscar race and therefore one of 2016's most under-appreciated films, Christine is a tragically compelling account of the final days of Christine Chubbuck, a Florida newscaster who shot herself live on the air in 1974.
Rebecca Hall gives an awards-worthy performance, easily the best of her career, as Chubbuck, capturing her overwhelming sadness while attempting to probe into what exactly caused her sensational suicide.
With a focus on Chubbuck's humanity above all else, Christine is a masterfully restrained character study with a cracking supporting turn from Michael C. Hall.
