Ranking January 2017's Movies From Worst To Best
5. Silence

Box Office: A rare stumble for Martin Scorsese, his long-awaited passion project has barely made back 25% of its $40 million budget, likely due to a plethora of box office competition, incredibly niche subject matter and a brutal 161-minute run-time.
Verdict: Scorsese has been attempting to get his adaptation of Shūsaku Endō's novel made for literally decades, and though the end result might be too airy and slow for some, it's a gorgeously meditative feast for the senses for those prepared to take the lengthy ride.
Andrew Garfield, Liam Neeson, Adam Driver and Issey Ogata lead a magnificent cast in this beautifully-filmed slow-burn that provides provocative food-for-thought about religion and belief regardless of your own persuasion. What a shame it didn't go better with both audiences and the Academy.
