Ranking January 2017's Movies From Worst To Best
2. La La Land
RottenTomatoes Score: 93% (8.7/10)
Box Office: Propelled by immense reviews, word-of-mouth, awards buzz and no direct competition, La La Land has made an astonishing $225.6 million against a $30 million budget.
Verdict: Likely to win this year's Best Picture Oscar, Damien Chazelle's follow-up to Whiplash is a technical marvel that more than lives up to the immense hype.
Whether you're a musical lover or find the genre hard to warm to, there's a wealth of charm here to soak in thanks to terrific lead performances from Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, not to mention a surprisingly mature engagement with its central relationship drama.
The music, cinematography and direction are all unsurprisingly excellent, and while it's a relatively safe Best Picture winner, it's hard to argue with just how damn fun it is.
