Box Office: The apparently final Maze Runner movie exceeded most industry expectations, and after mere days in cinemas has almost doubled its impressively moderate $62 million budget.

Though it opened at a slightly lower figure than its 2015 predecessor, which went on to gross $312.3 million worldwide, this finale is clearly still a sizeable hit for Fox.

Verdict: It's fair to say that the new Maze Runner movie's narrative is its least interesting aspect, while its 142-minute runtime is abusively overlong and it doubles down on cheesy YA tropes.

However, it does also deserve recognition for Wes Ball's spectacular direction, the committed performances and a generally more impressive production than you'd expect from the budget.

Not a great movie by any means, but for fans, it'll do just fine.
